Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) is a policy think tank under the aegis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, dealing with corporate affairs regulation, governance, policy and capacity building.

About the Program

Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs is organising a 360° residential winter school program on conflict resolution. The winter school is a first of its kind, skill- based learning experience being rolled out by a government organization in India. The course is designed to demystify conflict resolution for everyone in India. The course shall cover practical takeaways on the Indian dispute resolution waterfall mechanism– negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation.

The course is aimed at equipping students enrolled in professional courses (such as CA, CS, Law, Fashion Designing, MBA, etc.), young professionals with post qualification experience of four years or less, start-up entrepreneurs and foreign entrepreneurs wanting to establish themselves in India.

The course will be conducted in the form of interactive classroom sessions focused on practical issues faced by practitioners and mock practice sessions by international and domestic experts supported by relevant, real-life case studies. Participants shall be given reading material on basic concepts and key theory as pre-reading material for the winter school so that they can come prepared for the practical discussions in classes. We shall also clear concepts of participants via email basis reading material before classes.


Mr. Sumeet Kachwaha
Founding Partner, Kachwaha& Partners

Sumeet Kachwaha is the founding partner of Kachwaha & Partners, having a leading dispute resolution and arbitration practice. He has handled many landmark and high-stake matters and cross-border disputes. Mr Kachwaha has been ranked in Band 1 in the arbitration section of Chambers Asia since 2009. He is named as a “leading individual” in The Legal 500: Asia Pacific for dispute resolution. He features in the ‘arbitration’, ‘asset recovery’, ‘construction’, ‘government contracts’ and ‘procurement’ titles of Who’s Who Legal.

Mr Kachwaha currently serves as vice president of the Asia-Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG). He also serves on the advisory board of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) now known as Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). He served as the chair of the dispute resolution and arbitration section of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) for three years.

Mr. Kachwaha is empanelled in the panel of arbitrators of AIAC (formerly KLRCA); SIAC; CIETAC; HKIAC; Singapore Institute of Arbitrators; Indian Council of Arbitration and Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.

MS. Meghna Mishra

Ms. Meghna Mishra, Partner, heads the Delhi High Court Civil Practice at Karanjawala & Co. With two decades of illustrious post qualification experience to her credit, she has become a name synonymous with quick turnaround time, sound legal strategy, attention to detail, and impeccable court craft.

Recently, Ms. Mishra was recognized as ‘Commercial Litigation Lawyer of the Year - India’ by ACQ5 Global Awards 2018, Global Venture Awards 2019, Corporate America 2019, Global Business Insight 2019 and Global 100 – 2019 & by Women in Law Awards 2019 for ‘Outstanding legal expertise and contribution within the practice area of Commercial Litigation.’ Some of her notable clients include Mr. Ratan N. Sharwari Pandit
Legal manager, Hindustan Unilever, Limited

Sharwari Pandit graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore with a B.A.,LL.B (Hons) in 2017. She currently works as a Legal Manager (North India Team) with Hindustan Unilever Limited, and is based out of Gurugram. Her role includes litigation management, and dispute resolution, business partnering the Customer Development and Factory teams in North India, legal research projects and cross functional projects.

She has been routinely invited as a judge to various intra-university and inter-university negotiation and mediation competitions at NLSIU, Bangalore, WBNUJS (Kolkata) and NALSAR, Hyderabad. She is currently the official coach for the team from WBNUJS, Kolkata which will be represented at the 15th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition 2020 at Paris.

Sai Deepak J
Advocate, High Court of Delhi

An engineer-turned-litigator/arguing counsel with bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering from Anna University (2002-06) and in law from IIT Kharagpur (2006-09). Mr. Sai started my career as a litigator in July 2009 with the NCR-based litigation firm, Saikrishna & Associates, and was made Associate Partner in March 2015.

In June 2016, he founded Law Chambers of J. Sai Deepak and have, ever since, been practising as an arguing counsel. He has been engaged by law firms and independent solicitors to appear and argue for their clients in the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court of India, the Madras High Court, NCLTs, NCLAT, NCDRC, CCI and IP Tribunals.

Kudrat Dev

Chevening Scholar | LL.M. SOAS (2017-2018) Founder, Y-CMCM (Youth-run Conflict Management & Community Mediation)

Kudrat Dev is an experienced Commercial Dispute Resolution Lawyer, a Gender Justice Advocate, a Conflict Coach and a Mediator accredited by the Civil Mediation Council U.K. She has worked in India and England. She is trained as an Experiential Instructional Course Designer and a Facilitator. She lives everyday with the aim of helping people find resources within themselves, available to them under law and even beyond that.

She was awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the U.K. government to pursue her LL.M. (major in Alternate Dispute Resolution) in Law, Development and Globalization at SOAS, University of London. Currently, she is working as a Legal Counsel at Siemens Limited and believes conflict management and dispute prevention are integral for the growth of business. She is the Founder of the Youth-run Conflict Management and Community Mediation (Y-CMCM) initiative at O.P. Jindal Global University.

Mr. Anuroop Omkar

Mr. Omkar is a practicing commercial lawyer and ADR neutral. Post his graduation from Gujarat National Law University in 2012, he underwent rigorous training and evaluation for mediation in USA, Europe and from Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC). Mr. Omkar finds his mention in almost every panel pertaining to mediation in India. He is empanelled as a Mediator with the World Bank, Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO) of the International Financial Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA); NCLT and NCLAT under the Companies Act, 2013; ICADR, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India; Delhi Dispute Resolution Society of the Ministry of Law and Justice; Centre for Mediation and Conciliation of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry among others.

He has been instrumental in assisting various Ministries of Government of India to bring about behavioral change pertaining to acceptance of mediation as a appropriate mechanism of dispute resolution. He has been involved with the drafting of Section 442 of the Companies Act, 2013; Chapter V of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015. In addition to this, He has been invited as an expert member by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) for conflict resolution on how mediation can be included disputes resolving around tax and insolvency disputes respectively.

He has been inducted as an Expert Contributor for NCLT & NCLAT Member Induction Training Programme (Mergers and Acquisitions and Alternate Dispute Resolution). Mr. Omkar was a nominee of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India on World Bank Insolvency Policy Colloquium/ Delegation on the Insolvency Regime of England & Wales at London, United Kingdom.

Geetanjali Sharma

With 5+ years of work experience in governance, policy, legal compliance and stakeholder engagement, Geetanjali have worked at the intersection of law and public policy in government, for profit and not for profit settings, my core skills include- regulatory landscaping, legal and policy drafting, compliance training, navigating bureaucracy and basic data analytics influencing policy design.


In order to be eligible for this Winter School Program, the individuals have to have the following pre-requisites:

  • Students of law, commerce, management, CA, CS, or any other stream interested to learn about dispute resolution in India
  • Young Professionals of any stream interested to learn about dispute resolution in India
  • Start-up Entrepreneurs
  • Foreign Entrepreneurs
  • In-house Counsel, In-house Company Secretaries, Charted Accountants
  • Financial officers and Managers

Number of seats available – 100 (Hundred)

Maximum candidates per institution (excluding alumni) – 3 participants. (This limit is placed to ensure diversity of students and ensure fair opportunity)

This cap does not apply on all other categories apart from students. The participants of the program will be in a manner where 50% of the seats will be allocated to graduating students and the other 50% will be allocated to all other categories.

Registration & Fees

Registration is based on the Curriculum Vitae of the individuals. A separate student selection panel set up by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs shall solely conduct the selection based on merits.

Tie Breaker: In case we receive a larger number of applications than what is available, the Curriculum Vitae of students that are scored equally may be asked by the IICA Student Selection Committee to submit a statement of purpose as a tie breaker for evaluation purposes.

Course fee: Rs. 45,000 (including 18% GST and twin sharing accommodation)

  • Boarding and Lodging (Twin sharing basis) (The dates on which accommodation is provided for is 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th of January, 2020)

Early Bird Registration: Early Bird Discount of 7% shall apply to those students who register on or before 10th November 2019. The registration process shall be the same as mentioned above.

Cancellation policy There is no cash refund in case you cancel the registration from your end. IICA reserves the right to amend content, expert, policy, venue & date(s) of the winter school. Delegates will be refunded the registration fee in full in case the Winter School Program gets cancelled from our end.
